Teachers of grades K–12 in Texas public schools are required by law to provide instruction that covers 100% of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) applicable to each grade/level. Below are links to each of the grade/level TEKS for music.
The TEKS help structure instruction around what the student should know and be able to do at the end of each grade/level, not how instruction should be delivered. The TEKS are vertically aligned to provide for a cohesive curriculum from one grade/level to the next and are designed to promote consistency in learning across the state. Each district and its teachers are responsible for developing curriculum that will ensure instruction of all the TEKS.
